Five Reasons Why Technology Deserves Praise
Next time you send an email to your family, plan a vacation online, or send photos of your newborn to your parents, you may want to stay away from technology. Technology and its use are an indispensable part of our daily lives. It is so ubiquitous that it will be difficult for us to live in a world without it.
When Sandra Johnson was young, she thought that an engineer was a trainer. A few years later, she became the first black woman in the United States to receive a doctorate in electrical engineering. Dr. Johnson is now the chief technology officer and senior member of the technical staff of the IBM Systems and Technology Group. He believes that black families must integrate technology into their daily lives. "Without technology, there are many reasons why black people cannot survive," Dr. Johnson said. The following are the top five:
1) Technical level:
from small and medium-sized enterprises to visual, literary, and recording artists, to information communication technology to make the world within reach. This provides special advantages for black community members who have traditionally encountered obstacles to success in these and other areas. Technology has created a level playing field, so black voices can be heard, black products can be marketed, and creativity and innovation can flourish.
2) Economic Empowerment:
Technology enables blacks to do incredible things with the click of a mouse. They can buy almost anything, pay bills, plan vacations, buy entertainment, wine, and food at a lower cost, and use online services to find the best banking services.
3) Strengthening Family Relationships:
For many people who no longer physically live with close relatives, technology enables them to communicate regularly in a cost-effective manner. They can exchange photos, share videos, send e-cards, and text messages, and make calls from one place to another for a fraction of what they were a few years ago.
4) Careers in technical fields are excellent:
Careers in technical-related fields are very beneficial. It can also improve your quality of life. The technical skills are unique and rare, the work is stimulating and rewarding, and the economic rewards are relatively high.
5) Create a bright future for your child:
Through technology, the world is at your child's doorstep. Technology has improved the education of black children. Imagine what happens if black children spend time designing or improving games for Xbox 360 and PS2, or if they use their wisdom to create videos, movies, music, and literature. The possibilities and opportunities associated with technology are endless.
According to Dr. Johnson, many programs provide access to technology and training, including Black Family Technology Awareness Week. "If America is to maintain its competitive advantage," he said, "We must encourage our children to develop and improve their technical skills with the next generation of innovators, scientists and engineers, and our adults."
