AWS has unveiled Amazon Aurora I/O-Optimized

AWS has unveiled Amazon Aurora I/O-Optimized, the latest iteration of its Aurora database.

The new version does away with I/O charges, a move that should also lead to lower overall costs for customers using large workloads.

As such, the new Aurora database may interest cost-conscious CIOs and help AWS attract more customers looking to operate more efficiently in the cloud. However, the I/O-optimized version is pricier than the standard Aurora database and is therefore more appropriate for specific workloads, according to industry analysts.

The cost savings should prove particularly beneficial for data-intensive workloads.
